CITY OF OROWO <br />PARK COMMISSION <br />#544 <br />Regular meeting of the Orono Park Conunission held May-|6, 1980 <br />The Orono Park Conunission met on the <br />above date with the following members <br />present: Chairman Tomlinson, Massengale, <br />Erger, Peterson, Watson, Kelley and <br />Goetten. Also present were Fred Ryan, <br />Bill Reese, Toni Berglund, Director of <br />Community Services and Therese Schwending <br />Program Coordinator, Summer Recreation <br />Program. <br />ATTENDANCE <br />The minutes of the April meeting were read <br />and approved. <br />MINUTES <br />Fred Ryan appeared before the Park Commission <br />regarding a piece of unimproved public access <br />and park land at the intersection of North Arm <br />Drive and Park Drive. The area has become unsafe <br />for neighborhood children due to its use by <br />speeding cars and dirt bikes. Pyan requested <br />that either the City maintain the area by.fencing^ <br />it or vacate the property to Ryan who would see <br />to it's upkeep. <br />UNIMPROVED PUBLIC <br />ACCESS <br />A motion was made by Goetten, seconded by Watson <br />to”retain park land and combine with unused public <br />access to create a more feasible neighborhood park <br />ared. Area must be fenced and maintained by the <br />City." Motion was unanimously passed. <br />Bill Reese reported that he had been in touch with. <br />Toni Berglund regarding *a ski school at Orono Golf <br />Course to be offered through Community Services. <br />The Park Commission will meet with Mr. Reese at <br />the Golf Course on June 3 to see the layout feasibil­ <br />ity and costs. <br />SKI SCHOOL GOLF <br />COURSE <br />Toni Bergliind introduced Theresa Schwending to the <br />Park Commission. She was hired as the Program Coord­ <br />inator for the Summer Recreation Progr£un in the Orono <br />School District. The Park Commission was given a <br />schedule of her visits to the five communities invol­ <br />ved in the progr£un. The progr2un will begin June 16 <br />through August 15 for ages 5-12, Programs in Orono <br />will be primarily on Tuesday & Friday afternoons. <br />PROGRAM COORDINATOR
