L <br />Memo <br />Department <br />From: <br />Date: <br />Subject: <br />Giicf Good <br />11/12/01 <br />Career Development - Working Out of Class Assignment <br />An opportunity for a patrol officer to assist in the implementation of the department ’s mission <br />and goals as an acting sergeant assigned to administration is being offered at this time. <br />This decision is the result of a thorough assessment of the needs and the priorities of the <br />department as voiced through inter\ iews, surveys, and job performance during the past six <br />months. <br />This position is an “at-will" assignment for a period of time up to one year. Pay rate will be <br />adjusted to be commensurate with the City of Orono sergeants pay scale. Pay will revert to the <br />patrol officer's original pay scale at the end of the assignment. <br />Primar>’ job duties: Work cooperatively with the communities we serve and the members of the <br />police department to achieve the mission of fairness. scr\ ice, pride and quality. Seek <br />coHaboration and biiiid consensus in reaching the fotlowing objectives: <br />Planning: Assist the department in updating policy, procedure, and standards by researching <br />Constitutional Law. state statutes, POST requirements, city rules and ordinances. <br />• Work with chief and other members of the department in the development of an <br />appropriate organizational structure. <br />• Design a fair process by which to recruit and fill the desired organizational structure with <br />the best qualified personnel. <br />• Develop work assignments so that officers have a clear understanding of performance <br />expectations. <br />• Establish protocol for effective performance evaluations for patrol, investigations, and <br />sergeants. <br />• Assist in planning and preparation for the management of critical incidents. <br />Operations: Support department in daily operations. <br />• Maintain patrol and investigative coverage through scheduling. Ensure that our <br />scheduling meets community public safety requirements, satisfies contract city <br />agreements, labor agreements, and meets all minimum staffing needs. Assist patrol, <br />sergeants and investigator in ensuring complete, accurate and timely police reports.
