We, in Orono, have becotne very concerned
about the total effect from these proposed projects if they were all to be
approved.
Became of our concern, on January 10, 1977, the Orono City Council declared
a moratorium on any and all dredging proposals in Orono until July 1, 1977.
date ccxild be extended so ^ to give Council, Planning Comission and
"i*tf 3nplc time to adopt policies and standards to consider in reviewinc all dredging proposals.
There are provisions for obtaining variances from moratoriuns, but to date
this particular project is somewhat cloudy. We have no certification as to
the existing and projxjsed dimensions of the channel in question.
I am enclosing a copy of the Council resolution dated January 10, 1977, when
the moratorium was declared. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate
to contact me.
We would appreciate your respect of our position until we can resolve this
matter. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Henry F. ftiihich
Zoning Administrator
HFM: be
Enclosure
