Ift
SEP 0 9 2002
CllYUrOHONO
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
Date: September 9,2002
Item No:/3
Department Approval:Administrator Reviewed:Agenda Section:
Name:
Title:
Stephany Good
Chief of Police
Item Description: Metropolitan Airports Commission Assistance Agreement
DISCUSSION
1) The Metropolitan Airport Commission has requested mutual aid from all Hennepin
County and State law enforcement agencies to provide security at the airport.
Full time licensed police officers are trained by the MAC and wear MAC identification
badges. Officers are to wear full duty police uniforms and equipment. They will be
indemnified and added to MAC’S policy as “additional insureds..’’
3) MAC will be billed by the City of Orono at the rate of SSS.OO/hour. Officers will be paid
at the normal overtime rate.
Officem will be paid only for their scheduled shift at the airport. Driving time will not be
considered as part of the shift assignment. Orono patrol vehicles will not be used.
S) The officers agree that the airport shift assignments will not interfere with their normally
scheduled work activity at the Orono Police Department. It is anticipated that there will
be about two to six eight hour shifts available per month for Orono officers.
The ofhcers agree that if they cannot fill the shift for which they signed up, it is their
responsibility to find a substitute. It is not the responsibility of the Orono Police
Department to schedule officers for this detail.
It is important that the Orono Police Department contribute to Hennepin County Mutual Aid
efforts when practical. Cooperation in multi-agency efforts is essential to the success of the
Orono Police Department.
COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED
Motion to approve assistance agreement for Orono Police Officers to provide security for the
Metropolitan Airports Commission at the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport.
