A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF DEVELOPMENT OF A SKATE PARK IN THE CITY OF MOUND WHEREAS, the City of Mound currently operates a skateboarding and in-line skating park at the Pond Arena Facility in the City of Mound and this facility is heavily used by residents from several communities in the western Lake Minnetonka area, including many Orono residents. The City of Mound is in the process of developing a new skateboarding and in-line skating park to meet the recreational needs of the western Lake Minnetonka area citizens. WHEREAS, the western Lake Minnetonka area has numerous smaller cities with limited with financial resources to meet all of their recreational needs, and it is not cost effective for area cities to have duplicate recreational facilities. WHEREAS, the City of Orono is supportive of regional park and recreation facilities in meeting the western Lake Minnetonka area needs for cost effective and abundant recreational facilities. WHEREAS, the City of Orono has very generous citizens, who throughout the years have made many substantial contributions to the City’s park and recreation facilities The City has historically funded a very limited park and recreation program and relied on the generosit>’ of its citizens to privately develop and operate park and recreation facilities such as the Orono Ice Arena and Lee Carlson ball fields. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Orono City Council as follows: 1.The City Council hereby supports the concept of a regional skate park in the City of Mound to provide additional recreational opportunities for the citizens of the western Lake Minnetonka Area and encourages the citizens of Orono to support the development of this facility through financial and other contributions.
