An audit of the Long Lake Fire Relief Association financial records for 2001, including the <br />"Special Fire Fund". <br />Fire District <br />Background <br />As the cities of the western Hennepin County area have begun to see substantial increases in the cost <br />of fire service, and particularly as the medium and long range plans of the area fire departments show <br />escalating costs for equipment and facilities, a substantial number of cities have decided to begin the <br />process of exploring the feasibility of establishing an area-wide fire service district. The cities <br />currently involved are: <br />Independence <br />Medina <br />Minnetonka Beach <br />Minnetrista <br />Mound <br />Orono <br />Spring Park <br />Other cities who may be approached to participate include: <br />Delano <br />Long Lake <br />Loretto <br />St. Boni <br />Wayzata <br />As Medina and Orono both receive fire service from multiple fire departments, the concept of a fire <br />service district appears to offer a number of advantages in terms of managing fire service costs over <br />the long term. We encourage Long Lake to participate in the fire district process. <br />Proposed Contract Language: <br />This agreement may be renegotiated or terminated if a majority of the cities in the western Hennepin <br />County suburban area approve, or have developed a plan for, the establishment of a fire district for <br />the provision of fire service to the area. <br />m i
