OPEJV SPACE AJVD TRAIL GOALS AND POUCiES <br />Orono's Park, Open Space and Trail Plan is based i^wn the following <br />Goals and Policies, which in turn are consistent with the other elements of <br />Orono's Land Use and Community Management Plans: <br />I <br />PARK. OPEN SPACE AND TRAH. HOAIiS <br />1. To provide passive open space and active recreational <br />opportunities diversified enough to serve all Orono residents. <br />2. To protect and preserve natural resource areas, wildlife <br />habitats and open space. <br />3. To identify, develop and oversee a City-wide bike and walking <br />trail plan that provides connections ^tween area parks and <br />open space and functions as a transportaMoa corridor. <br />4. To continually assess and evaluate the current park and open <br />space options in Orono in relation to the needs and desires of <br />Orono residents. <br />5. To cooperate and actively work with public and private <br />organiaations to provide additional opportunities for recreation <br />and open space that complement existing municipal, regional <br />and private facilities. <br />6. To encourage civic involvement and partnerships in developing <br />and maintaining Orono*s parks and open spaces. <br />7.
