Summary of Changes to the 1984 Orono City Code <br />The following changes were made throughout the code: <br />1. Grammar and spelling is corrected and modem phraseology is used. <br />2. “Policeman ” (and variants thereoO is changed to “police ofTicer ” (and variants thereof). <br />3. “Fireman” (and variants thereoO is changed to “firefighter” (and variants thereoO- <br />4. All provisions are edited in light of the general provisions chapter (Chapter 1) and <br />duplicitous material removed. <br />5. The state statutes arc referenced as Minn. Stat. <br />6. References to a department of public works arc changed to reference a department of public <br />services. <br />7. All insurance requirements arc changed to a minimum of $1 million. <br />8. Obsolete sections have been removed. <br />Following is a list of changes that were made to specific sections of the code, followed by comments related <br />to each change: <br />Description of Change Comments <br />1. Sec. 2, Article IV "Department " <br />- Added new section ‘‘City <br />Departments” <br />Language added: "City Departments. City departments shall be <br />established as needed to provide for the delivery of city senices. <br />The heads of such departments shall report to the city <br />administrator, and shall perform such duties as assigned by the <br />city administrator. * <br />6. Sec. 2-171 - Added “Fct’j ro fte <br />established by resolution " <br />Allows Council to adopt fees by resolution, unless a fee change is <br />required by law' to be established by ordinance; thus the city is not <br />required to publish and mail an ordinance when there is a fee <br />change during the ^ear.
