Gappa <br />Title Director of Public Services <br />Administrator Reviewed: Agenda Section: <br />Public Service’s Director ’s Report <br />Item Description: Bridge Replacemenis MNDOT Variances- Resolutions <br />The existing bridges at West Femdale Road over Browns Bay Channel, and Fox Street over Long <br />Lake Creek need to be replaced. These are 19S0's construction, single span steel girder bridges. The <br />recently completed bridge inspections revealed an accelerated rate of corrosion on the steel support <br />beams. These bridges are now eligible for state bridge replacement funding because of their <br />deteriorated condition. Council approval of the attached resolution is recommended, so we can begin <br />the application process for state bridge replacement funding. The estimated replacement co U for each <br />of these bridges is $150,000. <br />The required State Aid Standard width is 36 feet for the replacement bridges. We will be requesting <br />a variance from MNDOT to replace these bridges with 26 and 28 foot wide bridges to match the <br />existing conditions as no future expansion of these roads is envisioned because of the low traffic <br />volumes and significant wetland and lakeshore issues. Approval of the following variance request <br />resolutions is recommended. These resolutions will then be submitted to MNDOT for the June <br />MNDOT variance committee meeting. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED: <br />Motion to approve resolution requesting financial assistance from the State of Minnesota for <br />replacement of the deficient bridges at W^st Femdale Road over Browns Bay Channel and Fox <br />Street over Long Lake Creek. <br />Motion to approve resolution requesting a variance from Minnesota Rules for State Aid Operations <br />Chapter 8820 for replacement of the deficient bridge at West Femdale Road over Browns Bay <br />Channel. <br />Motion to approve resolution requesting a variance from Minnesota Rules for State Aid Operations <br />Chapter 8820 for replacement of the deficient bridge at Fox Street over Long Lake Creek
