t
Alternative Trunk Water System Design
Water System
March 13,2003
Page S
Rccammcndation
The City of Orono and the City of Long Lake should discuss a mutually satisfactory means of
sharing in the cost of these Improvements. Conceptually, both cities would share equally in the
two new interconnects along West Wayzata Boulevard. The City of Long Lake would pay for the
water tower rehabilitation and the trunk water main in the Glenmoor area. The method of
improving the firm pumping ciqiacity for the merged system and the sharing of that cost may
take more discussion.
It is recommended that:
1. Staff be authorized to develop an agreement with Orono to construct, finance, and maintain
the proposed interconnects.
2. SEH be authorized to complete the final design of the interconnects.
3. Stafi/SEH be authorized to negotiate with the two utility contractors currently working on the
utility replacement projects to arrive at a fair cost for the work to be added to their contract(s)
by change order. • u r
4. Staff be authorized to discuss with Orono an * ceptable and fair means of improving the firm
pumping capacity of a merged system.
5. SEH should obtain written approval from the Department of Natural Resources to upgrade
Well No 2 to a capacity of 1,000 gpm, should this option be pursued.
6. The Chy Council authorize preparation of plans and specifications for the rehabilitation of
the existing water tower at Willow Drive.
7. The Capital Improvement Plan should be amended to include the future system
improvements.
ka
Enclosure
cc: Greg Gappa, City of Orono
Dave Dudinsky, City of Wayzata
water sysim doe
