-^v;IrnMrnrm
Dear Friends,
2003 is upon us and time seems to keep accelerating with each year that passes. 1 think it was Andy
Rooney who once said, “Life is like a roll of toilet paper; the closer you get to the end, the faster it
goes.” In all seriousness, we enter this New Year with good news and bad news. The good news is
that the number of donors to the Alliance has doubled; the bad news is that the average size of
donation is down considerably. We are only slightly ahead of where we were at this time last year.
We would ask that you consider making a gift if you have not already and if you have, give again if
you are able. We have set the bar quite high for ourselves given our success in our first two years
of granting to the Orono Schools. So far we have granted almost $500,000 to the schools and have
built a healthy base in the endowment fund. Each year we tr)’ to do better than the previous and
we need your help.
Back to the good news, Lorie Line will perform at the High School this April to benefit the Alliance
and kick off her next tour. Keep tuned for details regarding tickets. We are looking for some event
sponsors, be they individuals or corporations. If you have an interest in helping us put this on,
please call our office. There will a silent auction with evcrj'thing from artwork to trips. This will be
a great time for all.
Lastly, this will be my last letter as President as my term is over. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time
and have been moved by the generosity and kindness shown to our organization by the residents
and parents of the Orono School District. Nothing worthwhile ever comes easy and the hard work
put forth by the board and volunteers has produced results that will be felt by this school for
generations to come. I thank you for your support, enthusiasm and for sharing your thoughts with
me about how to help make the Alliance a success.
Best Wishes,
Bowman Gray
President
\||SS|(t\ S|\||\||\|
»I • I • f
ill •III I i I I i I.
■ I • • .
