ORONO POLICE DEPARTMENT
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
Date:02/21/03
Item No:
FEB 2 4 2003
CITY OF ORONO
Department Approval:Administrator Reviewed:Agenda Section:
Name:
Title:
Kurt Erickson
Sergeant
Item Description: Upgrade and Moving of Oxygen System
Exhibits:
DISCUSSION!
The police department has kept a cascade system to fill oxygen bottles for emergency medical
response in the old Long Lake fire station. The system needs to be moved to the new Long Lake fire
station. The current system is old and does not meet current OSIIA or FDA guidelines. I have
spoken to Minneapolis Oxygen Company. They sent a representative out to look at the existing
system and proposed an upgrade that will meet OSHA and FDA requirements for filling the oxygen
bottles. This system is used jointly by Orono Police and Long Lake Fire. It has historically been
maintained by the police as we arc the greater user’s of the system. The fire department has
contributed the space.
The cost to do the upgrade and make the system compliant is not expected to exceed $650.
Minneapolis Oxygen Company is the provider of the bulk oxygen for the city and has provided good
ser>'icc to us in the past.
COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED:
A motion to appro\ e the spending of not more than $650 to move and upgrade the oxygen cascade
system from the old Long Lake fire station to the new Long Lake fire station by Minneapolis Oxygen
Company and to amend the police department budget to reflect the expediturc.
