C: <br />TO:Oreg Gappa, Public Services Director <br />FROM: Jack Brinkhaus, Public Works Supervisor <br />DATE:February 24,2003 <br />SUEUECT: Bid Award - Equipment & Materials Bid 2003 <br />The City of Orono advertised for two successive weeks for street materials and equipment <br />rental, with bid opening at 1:00 PA1., Friday, February 14,2003. <br />The enclosed tabulation contains a complete accounting of all bids. <br />The accepted low bids for materials are determined by availability and location of materials. <br />Traveling distance to a supplier is considered a cost factor when determining a low bid. <br />When renting equipment with an operator, we are guided by the type, size of equipment, and <br />an hourly rale. It is possible to award the low bid to more than one contractor when <br />considering materials and equipment. In order to stimulate enthusiasm for the following year's <br />work, we make sure to divide the work accordingly among these low bidders. <br />In the event the low bidder is not available, the City reserves the right to purchase from the next <br />alternate. <br />I recommend that the City Council accept the bids as presented for the calendar year 2003. <br />' a:’"’.?:'
