A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE MASTER PLAN <br />OF THE THREE RIVERS PARK DISTRICT <br />REGARDING THE DEVELOPMENT OF A <br />CONTINUOUS REGIONAL RECREATIONAL TRAIL <br />ON THE DAKOTA RAIL CORRIDOR <br />WHEREAS, the City of Orono has been a strong supporter of the development of a <br />continuous regional recreational trail on the Dakota Rail Corridor; and <br />WHEREAS, Three Rivers Park District has developed a master plan for the development <br />of a trail on the Dakota Rail Corridor; and <br />WHEREAS, the City has reviewed the trail master plan; and <br />WHEREAS, the City is strongly supportive of the overall trail master plan, but has <br />questions regarding the trail surface; and <br />WHEREAS, the City sees the advantages of an aggregate surface, including a closer fit <br />with the City’s rural character, a more forgiving surface for runners, a surface more suited to <br />cross-country skiing, and a surface that tends to limit speeds of bicyclists; and <br />WHEREAS, the City understands there are pros and cons to both the a^^gregate surface <br />and the bituminous surface. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Orono City Council does hereby <br />indicate its strong siq>port for the development of a continuous regional recreational trail on the <br />Dakota Rail Corridor, as well as its support for the overall trail master plan developed by Three <br />Rivers Park District; and does also request a meeting with Three Rivers Park District trail staff to <br />discuss the pros and cons of the aggregate surface vs. the bituminous surface. <br />Adopted by the City Couitcil of the City of Orono, Miimesota at a regular meeting held <br />on NovembCT 28,2005. <br />ATTEST: <br />Linda S.
