CONDENSED MINUTES OF A REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARtfOBNQl MEFT/wp <br />EDUCATION OF ORONO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 278 <br />HELD ON OCTOBER 17,2005 WV ZB2005 <br />The regular meeting of the Board of Education ofOrono Independent School Dts9^9(iPBON(> <br />278 was held on Monday, October 17,2005. <br />Present;Jack Veach <br />John Malone <br />Dick Lewis <br />Michele Kunz <br />Martha Van de Yen <br />Mike Bash <br />Karen Orcutt <br />Neal Lawson <br />■i-. . <br />" L ' <br />■ . )■* <br />. t/' <br />' • <br />I <br />UPON MOTION by Mike Bash, seconded by Dick Lewis, the consent agenda was <br />approved as follows: <br />approved the minutes of September 26,2005 and Octdwr 10,2005, regular <br />meetings; <br />- accepted the resignation of Sara Engel, Orono High School teacher on <br />mobility leave, effective October 31,2005; <br />accept^ the resignation of Dalah Smith, Orono High School guidance <br />office cleric, effective August 25, 2005 and, approved her appointment as <br />Orono Middle School guidance office secretary, effective August 26,2005; <br />• approved the appointment of Lisa Curtis as a part-time guidance clerk for <br />Orono Hi^ School, effective September 26,2005; <br />• apiMToved the appointment of Tarruny Lowery as a qiecial education <br />paraprofessional at Orono Intermediate School, effective October 17,2005; <br />approved the Activity Fund Quarterly Report, 3"* quarter, July-Septembw <br />2005; <br />iqiproved the bills as covered by vouchers 143434 through 143816 and <br />office checks 7300 through 7316. <br />Motion carried. <br />REFERENDUM UPDATE: Dr. Orcutt thanked John Malone, Dick Lewis, Mark <br />Engebretson and Jack Veach for their passionate and compelling presentations at the <br />October 10,2005 public meeting. She stated that there was still a lot of woric to be done <br />to disseminate data to the public. Letters would be going out to the taxpayers and <br />community in the following weeks. Mr. Neal Lawson demonstrated new web site graphs <br />produced by Ehler’s, the district's financial advisors. He explained the property tax <br />impact and demonstrated how the graphs showed the needs of the school district. <br />Discussiem ensued and Mr. Lawson answered questions by the Board for clarification <br />purposes. Board members John Malone and Martha Van de Yen reported on the big <br />commitment being made by volunteer community members. Dr. Orcutt thanked the <br />entire Board for all their hard work on this “Referendum of Hope”. <br />TECHNOLOGY REPORT: Aaron Ruhland updated the Board regarding NWEA <br />(Northwest Evaluation Association). The NWEA kickoff was sensational and very well <br />received by the participating administration and faculty. <br />Ms. Penny Pease and Mr. Ruhland reported to the Board on how the district is utilizing <br />new techriologies to enhance instructional practices, studoit learning, and home/school <br />communication.
