1
m
-s-
LANDSCAPING
The implications that a four>foot gate with eight-foot monuments have for the sake of design is
also a ^id grievance. This looks ccmipletely out of scale, and not in-step with the upscale and
stylish design that Orono neighborhoods are known to showcase. It is much more be-fitting to
have a gate dud is diiecdy in the scale of the monuments, where the height of the gate is the same
or directly coneqxMids with the monuments. It is also to be noted that the opacity of our
proposed gate is 50% or less, and it is earth-toned, uMch lessens the imposing quality that a
taller gate might have. The homeowners intend to have the name of the estate scribed subtly irto
the design, as well as the date of establishment Again, these design elements are stylish, but
subtle, and are diiecdy to scale with the neighborhood, and the great architecture known to the
City of Orono.
Lastly, we humbly and regretfully submit that in being previously misinformed about the codes,
or the existence of codes f<» entrance gates as being th^ stated for fences, the gata have
already been ordered and have largely been purchased. They have been custom fobricated as a
one-of-its-kind, and the structural and mechanical fittings for them have all been anticipated in
the on-site construction. We have, and we continually plan to exhibit compliance for codes in all
other aspects of this project, but this was an urumticipated and unforeseen issue. We sincerely
ask for your blessing to inshdl these gates as propos^ and to please consider this case for an^al
in better defining die codes written for entrance gates in die City of Orono. This community has
some of the best architecture in Minnesota, and entrance gates and monuments can also be an
integral part
Tlumks for yow consideradon, and 1 look forward to meeting widi you soon.
David Sonka
Landscape Designer
Bever Landscaping, Inc.
7309 Lake Drive
Lino Lakes, MN SS014
Phone: 763-7S4-4390
Cell: 6S1-307-3S62
cc: Adam md Kathy LaFavre, Sinqily Ai n, Luke Busker Masonry
