(Sec. 78-1405.
(7) b. 3.)
The other codes that speak directly toward the design of entrance gates do not further specify or
alter the permissible height, thereby making the codes for fences solely applicable (code (8) h).
Only the height and location of entrance monuments have been outlined in detail, as it states:
(8) a. Each monument, with a maximum of two, shall be limited to a single pillar with a
footprint measuring no larger than 25 square feet and no length to exceed five
feet:
(8) b. The monument must be setback a minimum offive feet from all property
boundaries and never fewer than ten feet from the edge of a paved, traveled
roadway:....
(8) e. The monuments are limited to eight feet in height including any appurtenances.
Any monument exceeding the maximum height must meet the principal structure
setback requirements:
(8)f. When more than one monument is proposed a minimum horizontal width of 12
feet is required between
them: (Sec. 78-1405. (8))
In light of these codes, it is understood that eight-foot monuments and a four-foot gates are what
is considered permissible on this property. But I would like to sincerely ask for this to be
reconsidered for the sake of the security, design, and stylistic implications that this imposes.
The 1S3S Bohns Point address has an almost legendry status among the community, in the
reputation of its previous homeowners. This property draws attention, and it is conunon for
people to walk or drive into the property and look around as if a public space. Since residing
there, the current homeowners, as well as contractors working on the property, have experienced
vandalism and petty theft inside the property. The homeowners also currently have 6 children
u'xler the age of 13. In ^ite of this, the pre-existing security measures on the grounds (driveway
probe sensors and laser eye sensors) have been entirely deactivated, and there is no intention to
fence the perimeter of the property. But the homeowners do want the security of a taller gate and
monument structure with communications to the house. This will be the only significant line of
security and structural barrier other than the trees bordering the property, and it is important for
them to have a taller, more prominent gate.
1
