Orono
OurFUeNo.: 47209.1
i»mSS: DearMr.Bairm:
We tepresem Simpl> Autamation, die company that designed and manu&cmcd the main and
side entrance gatts at the propenyieftned to above. There seems to be some controversy as lo
the proper ap^catioD of die City of Qioao zoning code to these unique pses. Asa
coQseqaence. the owner may not be able to use them. The extraordinary investmem in the gates
could be lost, magnifying the importance of an otherwise easily lemedirt in the code. This
lener explains why the City should allow the main and side gates to remain in place and the
installations completed We request an opporomity to discuss this matter with you and the siaiT
prior to the November 14 City Council inectiog.
Our client created die gates expressly for die Bohn’s Poim residence. They are designed and
engmeered as integral elemems of the entnoce monument systems. The highest poini of each
gate is below the top of the monumem installation. The top of the 17 foot, two inch across, main
gaie is seven feet, 10 inches from the ground. The top of die 16 fret across side gate is seven
feet, eight inches from the ground. Inienial structures of the monuments hold and su^xm the
gates. After the monuments were installed, the gates were snached to assure proper fining and
balance. To avoid damage, the gates were temporarily removed for painting. The main gate was
inidally placed on the monuments in early July, removed fat paimiag, and reinstalled two to
three weeks later. The side gate was also initially installedai^dienremoved for paimiiig. liis
ready for re-hanging. Keeping the status quo simply means leaving the monuments and the main
gate in place and allowing reinstailatien of the side gate.
^ ’
