MINUTES OF THE <br />ORONO CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />Monday, February 14, 2005 <br />7:00 o’clock p.ni. <br />(#05-3080 Interspace West, Continued) <br />Carlson stated they would like approval on the s(|uare footage and the overall concept. Carlson stated she <br />would be able to design a more traditional looking building. <br />White noted that the City would not be locked tnto this project simply by approving the concept plan. <br />McMillan stated in her view the removal of the half .story may have a big impact on this project given the <br />clustering and layout of the buildings. <br />Milcusnic inquired whether additional land could he acquireil to spread the project out more. Miletisnic <br />stated she would prefer the buildings be reduced by a half-stor)’. <br />Mr. Carlson stated the adjoining land is not avadabic. <br />Mileusme indicated she would prefer the Council not give approval to this project at this time. <br />Muqihy stated it is his understanding the Council is considering only approving jiortions of the plan. <br />i'eter.son inquired whether the applicant would like to have their application tabled. <br />Gina Carlson indicated she would like to have the basic concept plan approved tonight and that she would <br />be willing to meet w ith Stall to help re.solve some of the issues raised tonight. <br />Murphy and I'ctersoii indicated they would prefer the buildings be reduced by half a story. <br />Kaplan stated the general concept plan could be approved tonight, w hich would allow the applicant time <br />to redesign the buildings and meet with staff. <br />Sanscvcrc stated he would prefer to approve it all at one time rather than a portion of it now and a portion <br />of It later. <br />Rick Apple, 2101 Sugarwood, stated he would like to sec a \*icw of the buildings as they w'ould appear <br />from Sugarwood Drive. Apple noted there was also a fair amount of discussion at the Planning <br />C'ommi.ssioii meeting : Nml the future ownership of these buildings. <br />Saii.severe slated he did have a concern whether there is adequate parking. Saiusevere commented tlie <br />possibility of a chiropractor being located in this development w as discussed at the Planning ('omnnssion. <br />.Sansevere slated in his opinion that tviK* of use w ould generate a fair amount of traffic and parking needs. <br />(inia Carlson stated the units at the peak are far less than the 30-f(M)i height restriction and that to remove <br />a half-story would greatly limit this project ('arlson noted the pro|>osed two and a half-story is |0 feet <br />below what is allowed by the City. <br />PAGE 17
