The purpose of this action item is to appoint the new Fire Chief. <br /> <br />2. Background. At the October 10th meeting, the City Council established a new Fire Chief <br />Position, approved the job description and authorized the recruitment for the position. <br /> <br />3. Recruitment. The selection process for the position involved advertising the position, <br />application screening, and interviews. First round interviews were completed telephonically and <br />the second round in person. The selection panel consisted of Council Member Seals, Council <br />Member Crosby and Mr. Eddie Rice. <br /> <br />4. Recommended Candidate. Mr. James Van Eyll is the recommended candidate for the <br />position. James has been the Long Lake Fire Chief serving the city of Orono for the past 15 <br />years. <br /> <br />5. Recommended Compensation. I recommend to Appointment of James Van Eyll to the Fire <br />Chief Position with an effective start date of December 30th, 2022. An employment agreement <br />is at Exhibit A. <br />a. Salary. Grade 15 / Step 6 ($116,513.63 / yr) of the City Employee 2023 Pay Scale. <br />b. Benefits. All current benefits will remain based on his initial date of hire as the Long <br />Lake Fire Chief (15 years) and as outlined in the personnel handbook and employment <br />agreement. <br /> <br /> <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />Motion to appoint James Van Eyll as the Fire chief with a start date of December 30, 2022 and <br />approval of the employment agreement at exhibit A. <br /> <br /> <br />Exhibits. <br />A.
