`,t 'Pelephone 473-7357
, . R
.
C ITY of ORONO
Yost Office Box 66•Crystal Bay, Minnesota 55323•Municipal Offices
• On the North Shore of Lake Minnetonka
• - • •
December 8 , 1983
Mr. Joseph Backes
3416 Jidana Lane
Minnetonka, Minnesota 55343
Re : Approval for Experimental On-Site Sewage Treatment System
Dear Mr. Backes:
I have reviewed your proposal as submitted by Tom Smith Associates,
Inc. to construct and use a septic system with gravelless (SB-2)
drainfield system for your proposed seasonal cabin on Big Island.
The information presented appears to be thorough and well thought-out.
I have discussed this matter with Dick Benson, City Administrator,
and he has given me the go-ahead to proceed, handling all items on
a staff level rather than involving the City Council or Planning
Commission.
Therefore, based on the above considerations, the City will issue
your contractor a permit for the system essentially as proposed, with
the following changes and/or stipulations to be agreed upon by you
in writing at the time the permit is issued:
l . The design is based on a three-bedroom seasonal use cabin with
a design water use factor of 218 gallons per day. Should your
final design plans indicate additional bedrooms, the lineal
footage of SB-2 should be increased proportionately.
2 . The serial distribution system must be constructed such that each
section of SB-2 is loaded to approximately 1" less than the diameter
of the pipe; i.e . , if 10 " diameter SB-2 is used, set the distributior
pipes, by using an elbow system if necessary, so that outflow to
the next trench will occur when effluent reaches a depth of 9"±
in the tubing.
3 . The inspection pipes in each tank must be fitted with screw-type
caps (rather than slide-on caps) for ease of inspection.
4 . A new 5/8" water meter and remote exterior reader shall be provided
by the City at no cost to you, but must be installed by your plumber
at yoar expense. The meter shall be installed so as to exclude
outside sillcocks from metering.
