Purpose: To gain approval to use Hennepin County Assessors for assessing city properties for <br />assessment year 2023. <br /> <br />2. Background: The City has contracted with Hennepin County for assessing services since August of <br />1998. The current one-year agreement expires on July 31, 2022. The proposed agreement covers <br />assessing services from August 1, 2022 through July 31, 2023 and will be used set the tax base for taxes <br />collected in 2024. The contract includes two one year extensions that can be executed for maximum term <br />of three years. <br /> <br />3. Funding: The City cost for the 2023 assessing services will be $254,000 and are budgeted under <br />Assessing Services in the General Fund. <br /> <br />4. Staff Recommendation: Staff recommends continuing the partnership with Hennepin County <br />Assessor’s office to provide assessing services for city properties. An experienced staff with knowledge <br />of the unique and high quality properties allow the assessors assigned to Orono to provide excellent <br />customer service to our residents. As part of the County, the local assessors also have access other <br />assessing expertise that the dwindling number of private assessors do not have available to them.
