From:Alice Reimann
To:Jeremy Barnhart
Cc:Alice Reimann
Subject:Big Island Dock
Date:Monday, April 11, 2022 8:01:47 AM
Jeremy, please add this letter to the Mayor and members of the Orono City Council packet for tonight’s meeting.
Sorry for the tardiness. Alice
A brief message to the Orono City Council Members,
As this dock issue continues to be addressed by the Council on Monday April 11, I trust that the direction Council
Member Johnson was addressing at the March 14th, 2022 meeting will be ironed out. Or now, I see that this license
issue has been addressed again, and a legal document prepared, I think.
Mr. Thull wants the city of Orono to build a dock for him and annually put it in in the spring and remove it in the
fall. Seasonally, a dock slip on Lake Minnetonka leases for $5,000 to $7,500 depending on circumstances AND the
cost to put in and remove a dock along the waterfront costs us $2,300 annually. I believe at the last meeting you
were making these discoveries. I now see in the meeting packet that the license fee drafted will be $6,000. Is that
annually? Not clear. I hope that is addressed at the meeting. What is the running period for the lease agreement.
What are the specifics of the lease? I would like to see the lease.
Please also be aware that this is precedent-setting and there will be more requests. Actually 2 precedent setting
moves. 1) An inland lot owner can come to the city and say, “I want my dock”. And 2) "I want to choose my access
point." I ask you again, why the flat, 90’ wide access point (with no cost to prepare) where presently the city has
granted access via docking rights to 2 other inland lot owners is not in question. WHY is this access point not being
considered? Mr. Thull gets to pick his access point??? Again, why does he have this right?
OR, America's Boating Club of Minnetonka, formerly the Power Squadron could be his docking spot for the annual
fee of nothing to the City of Orono. It is right there and gives access to the island! This dock and future docks will
be a big headache to the city for years to come.
I also want to remind that this inland lot has NO running water to put out a fire, and no septic system on his
unimproved 480 BI lot.
Much to consider,
Thank you for your time,
Alice Reimann
440 BI
Alice Reimann
alice.reimann@gmail.com
612-875-5320
Item 10
