The purpose of this action item is to gain approval to hire a full-time public <br />works maintenance worker. An opening exists for a full-time public works maintenance <br />worker. <br /> <br />2. Background. The Public Works Department currently has 7 full time maintenance <br />worker positions. The maintenance worker positions are critical to meet current service <br />needs and are essential to City operations. <br /> <br />3. Recruitment. The selection process for the position involved advertising the <br />position, application screening, and interviews. First round interviews are completed by <br />a panel of public works supervisors and maintenance worker and second round practical <br />exercise testing, background checking and interviews conducted by the Public Works <br />and Parks / Golf Superintendents and first round staff. <br /> <br />4. Recommended Candidate. Ben Theisen has 12 years of private building and <br />grounds and landscaping construction experience. Ben is excited about the opportunity to <br />work for the Orono Public Works Department. <br /> <br />5. Recommended Compensation. I recommend to hire Ben Theisen as a full-time <br />public works maintenance worker with an effective start date of May 10, 2022, and <br />pending background check results. <br />a. Salary. Starting rate of $25.77/hour (IUOE Local 49 Agreement pay scale). <br />b. Benefits. As a full-time employee the position is eligible for benefits as outlined in the <br />IOUE Local 49 Agreement and personnel handbook.
