strongly believe that the best way for kids to experience the lake is to put them on it, learning a lifelong sport • <br /> they can enjoy with their friends and families. Rowing provides a unique, multi-generational sporting experience, <br /> which,our rowers will tell you,inspires them, provides camaraderie,teamwork,and social interaction with a wide <br /> range of athletes,from 7th graders to 70-year-olds. <br /> • In an age of ever-increasing obesity,diabetes,heart,and other health issues, LLRC will continue to provide ample <br /> opportunities for our local youth and adults to help reverse this trend by providing safe,fun,and community- <br /> based physical activity and nutritional guidance through rowing. <br /> • LLRC offers rowing as a low/no-carbon footprint, physical fitness activity for city residents and the community. <br /> • LLRC helps preserve the lakeshore because our rowing shells and launch boats produce no wake. <br /> • LLRC continues to promote the beauty,tranquility,and respect of nature to city residents and the surrounding <br /> community because rowing is virtually a silent activity with no amplified sounds produced. <br /> • LLRC will continue to provide opportunities for our community's youth to physically and emotionally succeed <br /> where they may have failed in other sports. <br /> • LLRC will continue to provide life-long skills of teamwork,discipline,commitment,and respect through the sport <br /> of rowing for youth and adults and the community at large. <br /> •Title IX collegiate athletic regulations favor scholarship opportunities in rowing for our local girls to attend <br /> colleges and universities,setting them on the path to becoming productive citizens who continue to enhance <br /> Orono's citizenship and community endeavors. <br /> • LLRC's presence at the park will help the City of Orono meet its stated goal of increased security. <br /> •A partnership will help the City of Orono reach its stated goal of increased usage of Summit Park by the greater <br /> community. <br /> • LLRC is open to offering some free"learn to row"opportunities during the summer months for Orono residents. <br /> • LLRC welcomes the opportunity to provide special programming,such as the Wayne State STEM/Rowing <br /> curriculum through Orono Middle School using the Detroit Boat Club Crew model(see"Why I'm Teaching Kids <br /> Science Through the Sport of Rowing"by Elizabeth A. Barton, The Conversation,September 30,2019);or similar <br /> "Erg Ed"programming. <br /> •This partnership secures the presence of LLRC in the community for the future. <br /> S <br />
