6. Benefits of Boathouses
Nearly every study we've found under the topic"sports facility housing value"validates the notion that there is a
positive linear correlation with housing values and sports/activity venues. In discussions with the Minneapolis Park
Board, their findings show that when a neighborhood features a unique regional feature, specifically boathouses or
other structures that complement the landscape, there is a positive impact on real estate and property values,
with a positive correlation to proximity. This is especially true when the building provides an opportunity for the
community to participate in activities during multiple seasons.
7. History of Public/Private Partnerships in Minnesota
In the state of Minnesota, and across the country, there is a long history of public/private partnerships with
organizations, including rowing teams, operating on public land (specifically park land). For example, the Loppet
Foundation recently partnered with Minneapolis Parks and Recreation at Theodore Wirth Regional Park on a
14,000 square foot building. In Minnesota, there are many examples of public/private partnerships with rowing
organizations. The rowing organizations provide a building, equipment, and staff and are then able to offer
opportunities and programming to members of the community. Minnesota organizations with these types of
partnerships include:
Rochester Rowing Club, Rochester Duluth Rowing Club, Duluth
Minneapolis Rowing Club, Minneapolis Minnesota Boat Club,St. Paul
Twin Cities Youth Rowing, Eden Prairie
New:
• Lake Phalen Rowing, operating in partnership with St Paul Parks and Recreation, and schools in surrounding
communities
• North Star Community Rowing partnered with the City of Minneapolis to develop an ADA-compliant riverfront
dock launching site, and with Three Rivers Parks for a secondary site.
Rowing Minnesota
For a closer look at what rowing in Minnesota, and specifically on Long Lake,is all about, watch the"Rowing
Minnesota"feature that aired on Minnesota Bound June 23,2017.
https://vimeo.com/234911469/1fd90367bc
•
