family has been positively impacted by the rowing program at Long Lake, but we also
understand the challenges that come with storing equipment outside in the woods. •
The partnership with Orono for the creation of an indoor space to store boats and
provide community space will benefit the area immensely. The sport of rowing is open to all
and brings together different backgrounds of people who share a love for the outdoors,
physical fitness, personal improvement and teamwork. I often marvel at how international the
sport is and have enjoyed rowing at LLRC with adults who grew up in the area, as well as
meeting people from across the US and France,Puerto Rico, the Netherlands and Scotland. On
a more local level, the Juniors team brings together students from area districts and creates an
appreciation for the lake community that goes beyond affiliation with a particular high school
or mascot.
The coaches and volunteers at LLRC are environmental stewards who care for their athletes
and neighbors. I have experienced firsthand how helpful and welcoming the people are at
LLRC,people who thrive on sharing their passion for rowing and assisting others whenever
they can. This project also means a home for these dedicated people, and not just their
equipment. They deserve a space that they will care for with pride and will do whatever they
can to benefit Long Lake and the Orono community.
Thank you for your work on this issue and for your consideration of this letter of support.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Kind regards,
Betsy Lang •
2931 Bradford Lane
Mound, MN 55364
612-458-7113
betsylang@gmail.com
I
•
