• Manage the care and maintenance of department vehicles and equipment, including: <br />SMART equipment, parking bay, squad equipment area, department supply room, kennel <br />area and other areas as requested. <br />• Manage fingerprint appointments. <br />• Works with the City Planners to observe, report and enforce the City's nuisance <br />ordinance. <br />• Manage speed feedback and collection program. <br />• Assist Officers with traffic control. <br />• Assists officers with the putting down of injured animals, authorized to use department <br />issued shotgun for this purpose only. <br />• Administrative support functions, including: deliver and post notices as directed and <br />delivery and pick up of mail. <br />Examples of Work that will not be performed by a Community Service Officer: <br />• Carry or handle any firearms unless directed to do so by a supervisor. <br />• Operate a department vehicle with red lights or siren while driving. <br />• Be assigned to duties which require training typically reserved for licensed police <br />officers. <br />• Process evidence or crime scenes or take statements. <br />• Be involved in situations that present a danger or risk such as those situations associated <br />with a licensed police officer, including: writing state motor vehicle accident reports, <br />making custodial arrests, performing driver's license pick-ups or warrant arrests, stopping <br />traffic violators, performing bank runs or money escorts, handling cases in which a <br />suspect is held in custody for a police officer, handling calls of crimes in progress, <br />including domestics, or assisting at major felony cases unless called upon by a supervisor <br />to assist. <br />Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities <br />Knowledge: <br />• Law and Government — Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, <br />government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political <br />process. <br />• Public Safety and Security Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, <br />and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the <br />protection of people, data, property, and institutions. <br />• English Language Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language <br />including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. <br />• Customer and Personal Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing <br />customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting <br />quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. <br />• Education and Training — Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and <br />training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement <br />of training effects. <br />Skills: <br />• Active Listening — Give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to <br />understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at <br />The City of Orono is an Equal Opportunity Employer <br />
