Three Rivers Park District will provide the Council and update on their master planning <br />process for the future development of the Diamond Lake Regional Trail (DLRT) with the intent of <br />receiving and Council approval of the proposed corridor. <br /> <br />2. Background. Three Rivers Park District (TRPD) is continuing their master planning process for <br />future development of a new north-south regional trail through the western portion of Hennepin County. <br />Identified as the Diamond Lake Regional Trail (DLRT), the planning process for this 21-mile long <br />corridor began in January of 2020. TRPD has held planning session with City Staff and the Parks <br />Commission. Over the past year and a half TRPD briefed and collaborated with staff, Parks Commission <br />and Council. TRPD completed several rounds of public engagement and coordination’s with other <br />impacted cities. <br /> <br />3. Presenter. Stephen Shurson, a TRPD landscape Architect, is the Project Manager for the project and <br />will be the lead presenter. <br /> <br />4. Park Commission. TRPD presented at last week’s Park Commission work session. The <br />Commissioner’s present expressed support for the route. <br /> <br />5. Staff Recommendation. I recommend approval of the route. The portion within Orono requiring <br />improvement is within the street Right of way and along and existing sidewalk pathway. <br /> <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED: <br />Move to approve the proposed route. <br /> <br />Exhibits <br />A.
