To keep <br />costs at a minimum, property around the current City Office may be sufficient to construct <br />a new station. A new single-story fire station is estimated to cost between $2.6M and <br />$5.0M. This is based on a cost per square foot of approximately $128 and a 20,000 <br />square foot building. This would allow for future expansion, office space, and potential <br />living quarters. <br /> <br />Within the fire service industry, the use of mutual aid and automatic aid is a common <br />element. Most jurisdictions are capable of handling the daily types of calls but need <br />assistance with larger more complex incidents. Mutual aid is typically defined as <br />assistance that is requested by the responding fire department. The fire department <br />responds and realizes additional resources are needed and calls for those resources from <br />a neighboring department.
