The City of Orono is an Equal Opportunity Employer <br /> Review plans and specifications for on-site septic systems, inspect installations and keep <br />records. <br /> Prepare complex reports and letters. <br /> Assist staff in resolving technical questions relating to various code requirements. <br /> Make presentations to the City Council, commissions and other groups. <br /> Explain city polices to the public, developers and builders. <br /> Develop and implement goals, objectives, policies and priorities. <br /> Establish and maintain relationships with appropriate government bodies, private firms, <br />organizations or individuals to assist in achieving City objectives and ensuring <br />compliance with appropriate laws and development standards. <br /> Assist in resolving disputes between the City and contractors. <br /> Advise the City Administrator, Community Development Director, Director of Public <br />Works and other department heads on building services activities. <br /> <br />Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities <br />To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential <br />function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, <br />skills, and/or abilities required. <br /> <br />Knowledge: <br /> Building and Construction — Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in <br />the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures such as highways and <br />roads. <br /> English Language — Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language <br />including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. <br /> Customer and Personal Service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing <br />customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting <br />quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. <br /> Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering <br />science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and <br />equipment to the design and production of various goods and services. <br /> Law and Government — Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, <br />government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political <br />process. <br /> <br />Skills: <br /> Active Listening — Give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to <br />understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at <br />inappropriate times. <br /> Reading Comprehension — Understand written sentences and paragraphs in work related <br />documents. <br /> Critical Thinking — Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of <br />alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. <br /> Speaking — Talk to others to convey information effectively. <br /> Complex Problem Solving — Identify complex problems and reviewing related <br />information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions. <br />
