The City of Orono is an Equal Opportunity Employer <br /> Responsible for implementation of the Comprehensive Plan and other long-range <br />planning documents in a manner consistent with City policies. <br /> Conducts and coordinates planning studies and projects. May be assigned to special <br />projects in the Planning area as the need arises. <br /> Monitors activities of state, regional and local agencies and organizations and participates <br />when appropriate in preparation of policies which affect local decision making. <br /> Represents City on task forces, committees, or meetings involving planning issues. <br />Contacts may include Federal, State, regional and local agencies as well as adjacent <br />municipalities. <br /> Researches zoning and planning issues as needed to provide information requested by the <br />public, other agencies, City Council or City staff. <br /> Use of Geographical Information Systems in land use and planning applications. <br /> Code enforcement activity as necessaryRespond to complaints related to zoning and land <br />use code violations. <br /> <br />Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities <br />Knowledge: <br /> English Language — Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language <br />including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. <br /> Law and Government — Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, <br />government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political <br />process. <br /> Geography — Knowledge of principles and methods for describing the features of land, <br />sea, and air masses, including their physical characteristics, locations, interrelationships, <br />and distribution of plant, animal, and human life. <br /> Communications and Media — Knowledge of media production, communication, and <br />dissemination techniques and methods. This includes alternative ways to inform and <br />entertain via written, oral, and visual media. <br /> <br />Skills: <br /> Active Listening — Give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to <br />understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at <br />inappropriate times. <br /> Reading Comprehension — Understand written sentences and paragraphs in work related <br />documents. <br /> Critical Thinking — Use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of <br />alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. <br /> Judgment and Decision Making — Consider the relative costs and benefits of potential <br />actions to choose the most appropriate one. <br /> Speaking — Talk to others to convey information effectively. <br />
