Purpose: Discuss and provide direction to staff on filling the City Administrator Position for <br />interim and long-term. <br /> <br />2. Background: City Administrator Dustin Rief submitted his resignation to the City Council <br />on December 22, 2020. Rief’s last day is February 4, 2021. The City has appointed an Interim <br />City Administrator previously, in the absence of a full time Administrato r. City Code Section 2- <br />102 states “t he mayor may appoint an acting administrator subject to concurrence of the <br />council at their next regular scheduled meeting. The appointment shall state the powers and <br />authority granted to the acting administrator.” <br /> <br />The City has utilized a search firm, previously, to conduct the solicitation and vetting process of <br />candidates for the City Administrator position. The typical application process can take fro m 6 <br />months to a year before a new City Administrator is place. Ot her options may include advertising <br />and vetting of candidates by current staff. <br /> <br />3. Staff Recommendation: Staff is looking for guidance on an interim appointment for the <br />next council meeting effective February 5, 2021.
