REQUEST TO HIRE PART-TIME POLICE OFFICERS – RESOLUTION NOS. 6494 <br />AND 6495 continued) <br /> <br />Levang stated the City receives nothing but glowing reports on the Police Department and that Chief <br />Farniok is doing an excellent job. <br /> <br />Levang moved, Cornick seconded, to authorize the hiring of Lindsey Olson and Timothy Datwyler <br />Resolution Nos. 6494 and 6495 as part-time police officers at a pay rate of $24.67 per hour with a <br />start date of April 14, 2015. VOTE: Ayes 4, Nays 0. <br /> <br />17. REQUEST TO HIRE FULL-TIME POLICE OFFICER <br /> <br />Walsh stated he has the same comments with respect to this item. <br /> <br />Levang moved, Cornick seconded, to authorize the hiring of Joshua Raze as a full-time police <br />officer, effective April 14, 2015, at a pay rate of $27.97. VOTE: Ayes 3, Nays 1, Walsh Opposed. <br /> <br />*18. ACCEPT DONATION – RESOLUTION NO. 6496 <br /> <br />Levang moved, Cornick seconded, to adopt RESOLUTION NO. 6496, a Resolution Accepting the <br />Donation from the Stephen Larson Memorial Orono Police Fund, with the money being used <br />toward the purchase of exercise equipment and a thermal night vision scope. VOTE: Ayes 4, <br />Nays 0. <br /> <br />*19. DISPOSAL OF POLICE DEPARTMENT SQUAD CAR <br /> <br />Levang moved, Cornick seconded, to approve the liquidation of a 2011 Ford Crown Victoria VIN# <br />2FABP7BV2BX171770, and a 2011 Dodge Charger, VIN# 2B3CL1CT3BH565374. The Dodge <br />Charger will be traded to Burnsville Dodge and the Ford Crown Victoria will be auctioned through <br />the Minneapolis Auto Auction or other similar public auction. VOTE: Ayes 4, Nays 0. <br /> <br />20. COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR APPOINTMENT <br /> <br />Loftus thanked the Council Members Walsh and Levang as well as Mayor McMillan for participating in <br />the selection of a new community development director. Loftus stated Jeremy Barnhart has been <br />employed with the City of Elk River for nine years in community development and also previously <br />worked in the City of Watertown. Loftus indicated Mr. Barnhart would be able to start May 11. <br /> <br />Walsh stated in his view he is very well qualified and that he is looking forward to having him on board. <br /> <br />Walsh moved, Levang seconded, to appoint Jeremy Barnhart to the position of Community <br />Development Director. VOTE: Ayes 4, Nays 0. <br /> <br />21. REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS (RFP) FOR COMPENSATION STUDY <br /> <br />Loftus stated the City received five bids to complete a compensation study. The low cost firm, <br />Springsted, has a quality proposal if the Council is willing to extend the original completion deadline to <br />City Council Meeting April 27, 2015 Page 40 of 257
