Cc: Miriam Eason
Subject: Boat House Reconstruction
Hi Kate,
I have a quick questions regarding grandfathered structures. We received an application towards the end of last week
that is proposing to rebuild a boathouse below the OHW of Lake Minnetonka (see attached). From the documentation
provided it appears the building was deemed hazardous and removed by the City of Orono, allowing the applicant to
rebuild on the exiting footprint within a year. Since the footings will need to be installed directly into the bed of a public
water, would that require a DNR permit? While it may not be dredging in the strictest sense, MCWD staff has required
Dredging permits in the past for projects that are removing footings from the lake bed. Any clarification you could offer
would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Tom Dietrich
Permit&Compliance Coordinator
Minnehaha Creek Watershed District
15320 Minnetonka Boulevard
Minnetonka, MN 55345
Direct: (952) 641-4518
Main Office: (952)471-0590
Fax: 952-471-0682
www.minnehahacreek.org
2
