Mr. Jim Anderst -7- September 9, 2005
POTENTIAL PARKING DEMAND INCREASE FOR TRANSTT PARK/RIDE
We understand the City has an agreement with tlxe Metroolitan Council, whereby up to 25
spaces in the.western portion of thepablic parking lot rnay be used in a park/ride rnamer by
transit customers. Recent surveys perfoinied by Metro Transit have indicated that about 19
transit customers aze parking in thelot on a typical weekday basis. Thus, for tlus parking
analysis purpose,we.have accaunted-for an increase of six.p.arked vehicles for transit park/ride
customers during the Friday noon peak, No.increase iu transit parkingdemand would occur
durin;the Saturday early afternoon peak or uthe late Saturday evening peak.
PARKING DEMAND.INCREASE FOR EXPANSION OF NARR.pWS SALOON
To project the inereased parking demand associated witll the proposed expansion of the
1Varrows Saloon, two approaches are available:
a) Calculate the existing and future pazking reqturements through the procedures
defined in the City Code.
b) Estimate the future parking demaiidby tnultiplying the existing demand by the size
increase represented by the saloon expansion plans.
The project architect, SyIvia Frank, has calculated the existing and future City Code parldng
requirements, and the results are as follows:
 Existing park.ing spaces re.quired=38
• Parlang spaces required following completion of proposed expansion=57
Thus, the Narrows Saloon woild need just 19 additional parking saces to satisfy City Code
parking requirements.
Though our.parking survey did not distinguish users of the Narrows Saloon from users of other
businesses in the, area,.our sub-area parking analys4s provides a strong basis to establisl
conservatively high estirnates regarding existingparuag demand for theNarrows Saloon as
follows:
• For the Friday noon peak period, we have astimated the parki.ng demand for th.e
Narrows Saloon consists of all vehicles pa.rked in.sub-area A plus %Z the vehieles parked
in sub-area B. Qn this basis, the estiinated existing parking deznand fox the Nanows
Saloon is 34 vehicles.
For the Saturdy early afternQon peak period, we would estimatc parking demaud for
tha Narrows Saloon in the same matuier as for the Friday noan period, namely all
occupied spaGes in.sub-area A:plus %2the occupied spaces in sub-tea B. Tlte resultant
esrimated exisring pazking demand for the Narrows Saloon during this p.eniod is 25
vehicles.
• For.the late Saturday avening peak_period, we would apply the consezvative assumption
that all vehicles parked.in sub-areas A and B represented.users of the Narows Saloon.
Thus, the total stiznated existing parking demand for theIVarrows Saloon dtu-ing this
period is 60 vehieles.
G1 i ifG1'.J T.l.Q i GC? ?C •"1f1H 'S2 -lflfltJQF.1Gf L'FLl CGiGi?-S7G-.J
