Tuition Reimbursement Policy <br /> � Page 3 of 3 <br /> 4. An employee who does not remain an active employee of the City of <br /> Orono for a period of at least three calendar years after successfiil <br /> completion of the program must agree in writing prior to appl•oval by the <br /> City Administrator to repay the tuition cost to the provider(s) within one <br /> calendar year of separation from employ. The repayment shall be prorated <br /> based on the time period since the receipt of the tuition reimburse�nent. If <br /> an employee leaves the city's employ within one year, the repayinent is <br /> 100%; if within two years, the repayment is 75%; if within 3 years, ihe <br /> repayment is 50%. Separation ineludes resignation, retirement or <br /> termination for cause. <br /> .04 Limitations: <br /> 1. �n�ployees approved for the prograin will be responsible for ensuring their <br /> class schedule does not conflict with their work schedule. Flexible <br /> scheduling to obtain this goal is not allowed, except in a situation in which <br /> the training is not available through other alternatives. Flexible <br /> scheduling must have advance approval from the City Administrator. <br /> 2. Employees in the program will not be allowed reimbursement for mileage, <br /> lodging, travel time, aii•fare or other expenses. <br /> 3. Tuition reimbursement will be provided for job-related courses. Job- <br /> related means relating to the knowledge, skills and abilities needed to <br /> effectively meet the performance requirements of the present job, or other <br /> positions in the organization, as determined by the Department Head and <br /> City Administrator. <br /> 4. A course eligible for reimbursement is an acadeinic course of shidy <br /> offered by a recognized/accredited educational institution, including a <br /> vocational-techiiical school, college, OI' 11I11VeI'Slty. I11CI1V]C1L1aI <br /> Departments may determine whether eligible courses should be aimed <br /> toward the completion of a 4-year degree, a"certificate"program, etc. <br /> 5.
