� <br /> POLICY: <br /> �FFECTIVE DATE: <br /> I2�VIEW DATE: <br /> APPI20VED BY: <br /> Title: Tuition Reimbursement Policy <br /> llistribution: City �mployees <br /> Purpose: <br /> The purpose of offering the tuition reimbi.u�sement benefit is to encourage einployees to enhance <br /> their professional and personal growth by assisting in the cost of education. The purpose of this <br /> policy is to provide guidance in the administration of and participation in the tuition <br /> reimbursement program for employees of the City of Orono. <br /> .O1 Definitions: <br /> 1. Tuition Reimbursement Application Form—The document completed <br /> by an employee requesting tuition reimbursement as approved by the City <br /> Adininistrator. <br /> 2. Tuition Cost — The amount of money charged by an institution for <br /> participation in class(es). This does not include service charges, textbooks <br /> and other expenses. <br /> 3. Educational Planning Statement — A statement of the employee's <br /> educational goals, how those goals will beneft the Department and the <br /> city in fiilfilling its mission, the courses the employee is going to take to <br /> achieve those goals, the approximate tuition cost for which the etnployee <br /> is seeking reimbursement and the time frame the employee intends to use <br /> to complete the educational goals. <br /> 4. Reimburs�ble Amount — The amount of tuition cost that will be <br /> reimbursed to an employee. This may include all or only a portion of the <br /> tuition cosi based on available fi�nds and approved by the City <br /> Administrator, to a maximum of $1,200 per class. If the amount of <br /> reimbursemeni requesied exceeds the available Punding, those requesting <br /> fi�nding will all be reimbursed �t the saine percentage of the total tuition <br /> cost. <br /> .02 Procedu�•e: <br /> All tuition reimUursement will be subject to the amount of money avail�ble to the <br /> city at the time application is m�de. Monies for reimUursement can come from a <br /> combination of several sources such as private donations within legal guidelines, <br /> grants, and available training money. <br />
