This figure is very <br /> close to Orono's current (2008) estimated population of 7,800. This downward <br /> trend over the last 3 decades is clearly a result of Orono's 1975 city-wide <br /> rezoning to lower residential densities, reacting to environmental concerns <br /> regarding protecting the water quality of Lake Minnetonka and other Orono <br /> lakes. <br /> The projected population numbers for 2010 through 2030 shown in Table 3C-1 <br /> reflect the gradually decreasing size of the typical household, reduced from 3.16 <br /> persons per household (PPH) in 1970 to 2.73 PPH at the 2000 census. <br /> Household sizes are projected to shrink even further to a level of 2.4&39 PPH by <br /> �8�9-2030. Orono's 2030 population projection of 9,89�-800 reflects an <br /> estimated�&4100 households at�-�8?.39 persons per household. <br /> The projected population is in line with and a direct result of Orono's <br /> environmental protection policies. The population projections are consistent with <br /> Orono's rural land use preservation policies. The population projections reflect a <br /> careful parcel-by-parcel analysis of existing and planned development according <br /> to the Land Use Plan presented in this 2030 CMP update. In Orono, the Land <br /> Use Plan is the determinant factor in future growth, rather than allowing growth <br /> to drive the Land Use Plan.
