Draft <br /> CITY OF ORONO WEBSITE GUIDELINES <br /> Purpose: The website is provided as an additional communication tool between the City and <br /> the public it serves for the purpose of sharing public information related to the City's local <br /> governmental activities, programs and services, and other public entities. All information on the <br /> City's site will be provided in the most positive, professional, user-friendly manner possible. <br /> Participation: Designated City employees may have access and the ability to post information <br /> on the City website. The Web/IT Coordinator oversees all changes and updates to the website. <br /> The City Administrator and Web/IT Coordinator have the final decision on what content is <br /> appropriate to publish on the City website. Departments are expected to actively participate in <br /> maintenance of the website, and must check their information on a monthly basis to ensure that <br /> information is current and fresh. <br /> The City website may not contain any message boards and prohibits the creation of blogs. <br /> Creation of other Web Content: City employees cannot create separate web pages or websites, <br /> including social media sites, for communicating City business without approval of the City <br /> Administrator and Web/IT Coordinator. Social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, <br /> etc. are intended to provide additional methods for communication with the public. All <br /> information distributed via social media shall be a duplication of information currently available <br /> on the city's official website. Social media sites are limited to one-way forms of communication. <br /> No posting of public comments will be allowed unless specifically approved by the City <br /> Administrator. <br /> If an employee receives permission, the social page must serve a specific City purpose or need. <br /> The employee is also held responsible to adhere to the Data Practices Act. <br /> External Links: Links to other community or government information websites may be provided <br /> within the City's website under the following criteria: <br /> 1. The information in the linking site is useful and informative to the entire Orono <br /> community rather than special interest groups. <br /> 2. The information is presented from a neutral viewpoint. <br /> 3. Typical organizations which may be appropriate for linking include: <br /> ■ Ad hoc committees appointed by the City Council; <br /> ■ Quasi-government entities, such as watershed and park districts that include Orono; <br /> ■ Other government entities; <br /> ■ Public education institutions; <br /> ■ Public utilities that serve Orono; <br /> ■ Non-profit Orono civic, educational, athletic and recreational organizations; <br /> ■ Athletic associations that serve Orono; <br /> ■ Organizations providing information about art, cultural, and sporting activities in the <br /> City's area; <br /> ■ Organizations providing information about tourist attractions in the City's area; <br /> ■ Generally recognized community organizations. <br />
