Preservation of Orono's dark ni�ht skies will be nromoted by <br /> encoura�in� the use of appronriate outdoor lightin� design. The Citv <br /> will consider adoption of ordinances with the intent of minimizing light <br /> pollution without si�nificantly inhibiting safety and securit� <br /> URBAN AREA POLICIES FOR NATURAL RESOURCE <br /> MANAGEMENT <br /> 1. Land use standards will limit the impact of urban encroachment on <br /> Lake Minnetonka. Minimum lot widths will space out docks and <br /> structural encroachments while increasing areas of natural vegetation. <br /> The City will support the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District in its <br /> ongoin� efforts to r ^'�� „�� ��b„'�*;^�^ ._�;�� limit the number of boats per <br /> property and the amount of public waters available for private docking <br /> and boat storage. <br /> 2. Retention of natural vegetation will limit the impact of urbanization <br /> as visible from the lake. Building heights will be limited to less than the <br /> typical tree height. Minimum green belts will be provided with <br /> prohibitions against clearcutting or excessive thinning of vegetation. <br /> Natural vegetation will be preserved on slopes. Retaining walls will be <br /> discouraged except when absolutely necessary to prevent erosion, in <br /> which case they will be screened with natural vegetation. Chan�es to the <br /> topography of lakeshore lots with the intent of creatin� `walkout' <br /> situations will be discoura�ed because such land alterations result in an <br /> unnatural lakeshore character. <br /> 3. Direct runoff into the lake will be minimized.
