But FYI the city is treating me I'm trying to commit a
crime for trying to improve our property!
I'm replacing a crummy old deck with a 3 season porch. They asked for a new survey (even though there's an
old one on file) fine. $1300 later I provided that. Now they are requiring an escrow account agreement and
$700 from me before the permit? Builder(Precision Decks) has never heard of such a thing. They are shocked
at what hoops Orono is making me jump through for this. And I have to request "in writing" to get that money
back later. So they will keep my money if I don't? Geez.
Pretty unfriendly and costly process. I understand that some want to push the limits or break rules. But this is a
relatively small project that is replacing an already permitted structure. Shocking.
No reply is necessary. I just want you to know how this looks from a(well meaning)taxpayer/homeowner's
point of view. Lucia Delaney
2
