12707/2001 08:12 6127845236 C:I$TS SHOES ` p " "82 <br /> MINNESOTA STATE FIRE MARSHAL DIVISION <br /> ABOVEGROUND STORAGE TANK PLAN REVIEW NOTES <br /> Western Steel, Orno, MN - File No.: 00206 - <br /> The installation shall comply with the Minnesota Uniform Fire Code, ('98 MUFC). <br /> The following are requirements from the '98 MUFC that contain specific <br /> instructions applicable to this peoject. These requirements must be complied with. <br /> The following are general notes for all above ground tank installations: <br /> 1. Installations are only allowed when approved bv the local fire chief. <br /> 2. Dispensers shall be located a minimum of 10 feet from buildings and property <br /> lines and when the hose is fully extended the nozzle shall not be closer than 5 <br /> feet from building openings. <br /> 3. Dispensing hoses shall not be longer than 18 feet, unless at a marine or <br /> aircraft fuel dispensing station. <br /> 4. ASTs shall be provided with secondary containment that will hold the volume <br /> of the largest AST within the secondary containment area. Examples include <br /> dikes, drainage control, listed double-wall ASTs and listed secondary <br /> containment built into the AST. <br /> 5. Dispensing and fill piping shall not penetrate a dike. <br /> 6. ASTs shall be protected from collision, spillage and overfill as required by the <br /> '98 MUFC and the local fire chief. <br /> 7. ASTs shall have vehicle impact protection such as guard posts. <br /> 8. There shall be an emergency shut-off device located not closer than 20 feet <br /> and not farther than 100 feet from the dispensers. Activation of the emergency <br /> shut-off device shall shut down transfer of fuel to the dispensers and shall close <br /> all valves that supply fuel to the dispensers. The emergency shut-off device shall <br /> be distinctly labeled EMERGENCY SHUT-OFF DEVICE. <br /> 9. There shall be provided not farther than 75 feet from the dispenser a portable <br /> fire extinguisher of a minimum rating 2-A-20:13C. The fire extinguisher shall be <br /> inspected annually by qualified personnel. <br /> 10. Signs prohibiting smoking, dispensing into unapproved containers and <br /> requiring vehicle engines to be stopped during fueling operations shall be <br /> conspicuously posted within sight of each dispenser. When open to the public or <br /> when there are employees under 16 years old there shall be a sign stating the <br /> minimum age to dispense flammable or combustible liquids is 16 years of age. <br />
