Mr. William B. Moore - 2 - July 24, 1980
trench soil absorption system is recommended for the site. The log of soil
boring 4#3 shows soil mottling and gleying begins at three (3.0) feet at the
alternate site. Soil gleying (dull gray soil color) forms in soils which are
saturated and in a chemically reduced condition for long periods of time.
The alternate site is unacceptable for a shallow trench system. The City of
Orono sewage code requires a mound, also known as the berm, system for this
soil condition; therefore, we recommend the mound as the replacement system
for the alternate site.
The required trench bottom area for a three bedroom house is 990 square feet.
The sewage trenches should be no greater than 1.5 feet deep. Effluent
distribution should be accomplished by drop boxes.
If you have any questions regarding information contained in this report,
please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
HAKANSON ANDERSON ASSOCIATES, INC.
N;.:710.
