Moore
4701 West Branch Road
Mound, Minnesota 55364
Re: Moore Percolation
Dear Mr. Moore:
At your request, percolation testing was performed on part of the south portion
of your property located in part of the West 1/2 of the Northwest 1/4 of Section
7 Township 117 North Range 23 West in Hennepin County, Minnesota. Standard
methods of percolation testing were employed. Elevations are relative to an
assumed elevation of 100.0' based at a spike in the southeast base of a 3.0'
diameter oak (see enclosed sketch) .
This report includes:
1. Percolation test results
2. Soil boring logs
3. Testhole location sketch if
tri 4
4. Discussion and recommendations.
.t
Percolation test results are as follow:
Soil Material at
Hole Elevation Depth(inches) Bottom of Hole Percolation Rate(min/in)
#1 100.6 26 Clay loam 7.6
#2 103.2 28 Clay loam 6.0
#3 100.3 24 Clay loam 10.1
#4 103.8 24 Clay loam 7.6
#5 97.1 24 Clay loam 13.1
#6 97.6 24 Clay loam 12.4
Measured percolation rates are somewhat rapid for the texture of the soil material
in which the percolation tests were run. A more typical percolation range for
clay loam textured soils is 45 to 60 minutes per inch. Design factors for the
septic system for this site are based on this percolation rate range.
The soil boring logs show significant soil mottling begins at 5.0 feet depth
and 4.0 feet depth at Boreholes #1 and #2, respectively. Soil mottles. (spots of
contrasting color) are accepted indicators of periodic saturation in soils.
Because the City of Orono requires three (3.0) feet elevation difference between
the bottom of absorption trenches and the water table or soil mottling, a shallow
civil • municipal • planning • soils • land surveying
