MINUTES OF THE REGULAR 4RON0 PARK COMMISSION <br /> MEETING HELD ON SEPTEMBER 2, 1997 <br /> (#3 - Review of Parks-Bederwood - Continued) <br /> Welles agreed with Wilson of the need for fewer rinks at a higher quality. <br /> McDermott noted that other communities have only one rink. Welles suggested a <br /> central location be determined. The ice rink at the school was discussed and good <br /> condition noted. The ice arena was said to have limited open ice time. Gappa <br /> suggested speaking with school representatives regarding community use of the <br /> school rink, which would provide for adequate skating facilities with Casca rink. <br /> Wilson suggested representatives of the ice arena be spoken with. <br /> An idea for a on-lake rink on Stubbs Bay had been reviewed and was nated. <br /> Liability and parking issues were concerns. A Maxwell Bay location was discussed <br /> at the site of the DNR park. There was concern due ta open watsr conditions <br /> azound the channel. <br /> Welles suggested a rink on the galf course pond, which would enable increased <br /> use of the golf club house, provide a central location, and allow for more than one <br /> recreation with sledding. Gappa indicated a creek n.ins through the ponds and <br /> might present a prohlem. He said he would review the idea with Moorse. Beal <br /> questioned whether the pond was adequate in size. Gappa said he would check <br /> the well located by the club house regarding its ability to flood a rink adequately. <br /> Welles will work with Gappa on this possibility. <br /> Gappa suggested the school idea for a rink be followed up on as well. Erickson <br /> wil} call the school and work with Gappa. <br /> llse said the concept of using the ice arena is interested. Ilse said the ice arena is in <br /> need of money and suggested th�possibi�ity of the City contributing money they <br /> would save from flooding for a community open skating time period. <br /> llse moved, Beal seconded, to investigate the consideration for community open <br /> skating at the ice arena. Vote: Ayes 6, Nays 0. <br /> Erickson said there were open times available, but Welles indicated a fee was <br /> charged. Erickson reparted Gaxy Schroeder was in charge of the rink and would <br /> talk with him regarding the idea. He asked that the outdoor rink ideas be <br /> investigated as well. <br /> Wilson asked that ice rinks be on the October agenda. <br /> Gappa suggested Crystal Bay Park for a rink as there are many homes in the area. <br /> Wilson noted that not a1t rinks can be done. Ilse said water pressure would have to <br /> be checked. Casco, Hackberry, Bederwood, and Crystal Bay Parks were <br /> 7 <br />
