Ilse recognized providing far the needs of oider children as painted out <br /> by the neighbor who requested the basketball court. Ilse suggested the "Walk for <br /> Parks" pragram be instituted far next April to fund the court_ T'his program <br /> encourages groups to raise funds for these type of park amenities. McDermott <br /> indicated that this program could also raise the funds far the�;azebo at Antoine. <br /> �Uilson questioned whether the Park Commission shoutd match funds raised by this <br /> pres�ram. Van Zameren suggesteci setting a contribution limit. Wilson asked Ilse <br /> to pursue implementation af the pragram for next spring and deternune what <br /> needs are c�esired that could be addressed in this format. White will include this <br /> program in�is I,ong Rang�Funding Plan of which Ilse and White are on the sub- <br /> committee. The sub-committee wiil rapart back in September. McDermott asked <br /> that the neighbor who requested the basketball court be notified of this pragram. <br /> Iise asked what the policy is regarding weed control. She indicated that she sa.w <br /> someone spraying for weeds at the park without leaving notifieations af spraying <br /> havin�been done. Gappa said the City has�ontrac�ed for weed coritrol at some <br /> parks. Ilse said she does not favor parks being sprayed c�uestiotvng the safety of <br /> such activity. Wilson said there were people both for and against spraying. Gappa <br /> said the contract comes up for rebidding ne�year. Beai noted the nee�i ta <br /> differentiate between no�aus weed spraying. Gappa said there is concern with <br /> spreadin�weeds to neighboring praperties. WiIson noted there are harmless <br /> chemicals available for broaaleaf spraying. White said people generally over apply <br /> the chemicals. Wilson asked Gappa to review this i�sue. Gappa said he would <br /> ch�k with Hennepin Parks re�arding what applicatians they use. Van Zomeren <br /> and MeDerrnott both indicated that the praper notices shouid be displayed after <br /> sprayin�occurs. <br /> IIse reported that garbage being ieft by the mounds is blowing ar�und the park. <br /> She asked whose job it is to take caze of this detail. �Ga.ppa indicatsd that the <br /> baseball groups occasionally will take care of this matter but he will check on it <br /> and institute more than weekly pick up of tras�. It was questione�tl whether the <br /> basehall groups have a key to the dumpster. Gappa asked that Cammissioners cail <br /> him if they see a particular problE�n. Wilson suggested the trash be picked up c�n <br /> Mondays. Dse said the policy had been one where the last user of the fi�ds each <br /> night wouEd bring the�arbage to the dumpster. She suggested this be <br /> recommunicated to the groups. She a�so noted that the schedule of games should <br /> be posted. McDermott questioned whether there are a list of rulea which shauld <br /> be followed for t�e parks. t"sappa said there was not.
