MINUTES OF THE REGULAR ORON�PARK COMMIS5ION <br /> MEETINCt HELD ON APRIL 7, 1997 <br /> (#13 - Tree Preservation Policy - Continued) <br /> McDermott suggested applications include a question regarding trees on the property. <br /> Wilson noted this would enable the City to build public awareness regarding tree <br /> preservation. <br /> Beal asked�'an Zomeren regarding her preference for a policy ar an ordinance. Van <br /> Zomeren indicated a policy would be subject to interpretation while an ordinance would <br /> be of recard. She indicated she would like to see an ordinance on new development. She <br /> questioned how difficult a policy would be to enforce in terms of inspections and <br /> compliance. Regarding individual private property, Van Zomeren questioned whether <br /> covenants could be required for tree preservation. She said legal counsel needs to be <br /> consuited. <br /> McDermott noted the issue of preservation once development was completed. <br /> Wilson indicated it cc�uld be a matter of public awareness and education. <br /> Wilson inquired about size and species. Beal said deciduous trees replacement would be <br /> at 8" and 12" for coniferQus trees. <br /> Commission members agreed on the need to move forward with this issue. <br /> Van Zomeren will consult other city planners regarding prablems that have occurred. She <br /> will also cantact the City of Mound regarding their tree ordinance. <br /> Wilsan thanked Beal for his cantribution. <br /> The sub-committee will cantinue working on the ordinance and determine when a work <br /> session is required. <br /> (#14) SAGA HILL UPDATE <br /> The Saga Hill Preservation Group has recently applied for a grant to assist the purchase of <br /> three lots on Saga Hill. <br /> 11 <br />
