AGENDA ITEM <br />Item No.: 4 <br />Date: November 25, 2019 <br />Item Description: Liquor Violation — Orono Golf Course <br />Presenter: Soren Mattick, Agenda Consent Agenda <br />City Attorney Section: <br />Purpose. The purpose of this item is to present a liquor violation to the City Council. <br />Background. The Orono Police Department conducts periodic compliance checks with all <br />establishments licensed to sell tobacco and liquor within the City of Orono. When an establishment sells <br />tobacco or liquor to a person that is not eligible to purchase these items, the City Code imposes a <br />presumptive penalty on the licensee. <br />In July of 2019 at the City's Golf Course alcohol was sold to an underage person in violation. A violation <br />also occurred in August 2016. Pursuant to Orono City Code, any individual who sells or provides any <br />alcohol to a person under the age of twenty-one (2 1) years within three (3) years of a previous violation is <br />subject to an administrative civil penalty of one thousand dollars ($1000) and a three (3) day suspension <br />(City Code 34.23). As such, the liquor license issued to the Golf Course will be suspended for May 4, 5, <br />and 6, 2020. <br />COUNCIL ACTION REQUESTED <br />Consider a motion to approve the suspension of the liquor license issued for Orono Golf Course for May <br />4, 5, and 6 of 2020. <br />Prepared By: AMC <br />Reviewed By: AMC <br />Approved By: -TV <br />
