It'IINUTES OF A REGULAR 12 -ETING
PLANNING COMIJISSION, VILLAGE OF ORONO
SEPTEMBER 21, 1964
Chairman D. J. Russell called the meeting to order at 7:37 P.M.
The following regular members were present: lam. A. Curry,
H. S. Rice and D. S. Cleveland; ex- officio members: Wm. T. Mills
and K. Turnham.
WATER PATROL QUARTERS
R. L. Searles requested the opinion of the Commission as to
possible location of the Sheriff's Water Patrol Headquarters at
one of the two sites in Orono, namely the Light House, or Paul's
Landing. There was no objection raised to either site.
BUILDING PERMIT- INDUSTRIAL METAL PRODUCTS 00.
Mr. Braden and Mr. Truex were present requesting recommendations
for a proposed building on the N. W. corner of the intersection
of County Rd. 146 and Prospect Ave., Crystal Bay. The nature of
the operations planned for this building was considered to be
"Light Industrial ". This would require spot zoning in what is
presently a commercial zone. Mr. Charles Brantingham, stating
he was speaking for a number of residents in the area, requested
that the commission recommend rezoning this Commercial zone to
Residential. After withdrawal of the principals, an extended
discussion ensued. 'In the absence of an ordinance for "Light
Industrial" zoning in Orono and because of an adversion to spot
zoning the commission recommended that the request of the
Industrial Metal Products Company be denied. It was so moved by
Curry, seconded by Rice and passed.
MULTIPLE DWELLING - KEITH HOWELL
Mr. Keith Howell requested recommendation relative to a 22 unit
apartment structure he proposes to erect on a lot at the N. W',
corner of the intersection of County Roads #51 and #135.
Mr. Howell was informed that although the commission favored the
plans as presented, it would not be possible to make any recom-
mendation until a proposed Multiple Dwelling Code was put into
effect.
RE- SUBDIVISION -- MATHIAS HAFNER
Mr. Hafner requested recommendations concerning a relocation of
the line between Lots 32 and 33, Tonkaview Gardens which would
place an existing building completely on Lot 32 and leave the
remainder of Lot 33 unbuildable. The Subdivision previously
given preliminary approval by the Council combines Lots 32 and
33 into one building site. It was moved by Curry to recommend
adherence to the original, approved plans. The motion was
seconded by Rice and passed.
